Kirill Sokolov
Director · Known for They Will Kill You
Kirill Sergeevich Sokolov (Russian: Кири́лл Серге́евич Соколо́в; born 9 June, 1989; Leningrad) is a Russian filmmaker. The talents of versatile Russian writer/director Kirill Sokolov were brought to the attention of Western audiences via the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia in 2018. A riotous, action-filled black comedy, Sokolov's debut film, "Why Don't You Just Die?," draws upon the cinematic styles of his favorite directors, Sergio Leone, Martin McDonagh, Park Chan-wook, Martin Scorsese, and, of course, Quentin Tarantino. Although his first full-length feature film is distinctly Russian, uniquely characterized as a Western-style action film playing out within the confines of a Moscow apartment, Sokolov endeavors to tell a universal story that international audiences will still be able to relate to. Sokolov was born in 1989 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 2012, he received a master's degree in the Physics and Technology of Nanostructures. However, even as he worked to complete his degree in Physics, he began making short films with his friends, initially using just ketchup as blood. Inspired by films such as "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," "Evil Dead 2," "Oldboy," and "Kill Bill", Sokolov discovered that he had both a love and a talent for dark comedy, a genre which has yet to gain popularity in Russia. In 2013, when Sokolov's filmmaking hobby started to consume all of his time, he enrolled in a program for Advanced Courses for Film Directors and Scriptwriters (VKSR) at the workshop of V. Khotinenko, P. Finn, and V. Fenchenko. In 2015 he successfully defended his diploma with the short film "The Flame." In addition to his debut film, "Why Don't You Just Die?" Sokolov has edited several Russian full-length feature films, written several full-length screenplays, and directed music videos and commercials.

Park Chan-wook
Director · Known for Oldboy, The Handmaiden
Park Chan-wook (Korean: 박찬욱; pronounced [pak̚tɕʰanuk̚]; born 23 August 1963) is a South Korean filmmaker and former film critic. Widely regarded as a leading figure in South Korean and 21st-century world cinema, he is known for films that blend crime, mystery, and thriller elements with other genres. His films are noted for their cinematography, framing, black humour, and often brutal subject matter. After two unsuccessful films in the 1990s, which he has since largely disowned, Park came to prominence with his acclaimed third directorial effort, Joint Security Area (2000), which became the highest-grossing film in South Korean history at the time and which Park himself prefers to be regarded as his directorial debut. Using his newfound creative freedom, he would go on to direct the films forming his unofficial The Vengeance Trilogy: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002), a financial failure that polarised critics, followed by Oldboy (2003) and Lady Vengeance (2005), both of which received critical acclaim and were financially successful. Oldboy in particular is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, and helped establish Park as a well-known director outside his native country. Most of Park's work following The Vengeance Trilogy was also commercially and critically successful both in South Korea and internationally, such as Thirst (2009), The Handmaiden (2016), which earned Park the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language, and Decision to Leave (2022), which won the Best Director award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. He directed the English-language miniseries The Little Drummer Girl (2018) and The Sympathizer (2024). His 2025 film No Other Choice was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. Troy Michael Andrews was a 4-year-old boy when he first-handed a trombone. That young player emulated the musicians he heard playing in the “second line” parades, most notably his older brother James, a skilled performer in his own right. Young Troy was so small, and his instrument was twice his size, that he earned the nickname “Trombone Shorty”. Over the years, he listened attentively to his elders who educated him on the New Orlean’s deeply-rooted musical traditions. His capable hands absorbed these lessons, and he practiced constantly. A band-leader at age 8 and touring musician at 10, Trombone Shorty’s horn became his passport that opened the doors to the world. Respectful of and inspired by the music’s history, Troy developed a foundation built upon the many musical traditions of his hometown (jazz, gospel, and R&B), and updated them with modern rock and hip-hop influences. In doing so, he has created his own style, one he calls “SupaFunkRock”.
