Geraldine A. Ferraro photo

Geraldine A. Ferraro

Geraldine Anne Ferraro (August 26, 1935 – March 26, 2011) was an American politician, diplomat, and attorney. She served in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985, and was the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in the 1984 presidential election, running alongside Walter Mondale; this made her the first female vice-presidential nominee representing a major American political party. She was also a journalist, author, and businesswoman. Ferraro grew up in New York City and worked as a public school teacher before training as a lawyer. She joined the Queens County District Attorney's Office in 1974, heading the new Special Victims Bureau that dealt with sex crimes, child abuse, and domestic violence. In 1978 she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where she rose rapidly in the party hierarchy while focusing on legislation to bring equity for women in the areas of wages, pensions, and retirement plans. In 1984, former vice president and presidential candidate Walter Mondale, seen as an underdog, selected Ferraro to be his running mate in the upcoming election. In doing so Ferraro also became the first widely recognized Italian American to be a major-party national nominee. The positive polling the Mondale-Ferraro ticket received when she joined soon faded, as damaging questions arose about her and her businessman husband's finances and wealth and her congressional disclosure statements. In the general election, Mondale and Ferraro were defeated in a landslide by incumbent President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H. W. Bush. Ferraro twice ran campaigns for a seat in the United States Senate from New York, in 1992 and in 1998, both times starting as the front-runner for her party's nomination before losing in the primary election. She served as the Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights from 1993 until 1996 during the presidential administration of Bill Clinton. She also continued her career as a journalist, author, and businesswoman, and served in the 2008 presidential campaign of Senator Hillary Clinton. Ferraro died in 2011 from multiple myeloma, 12 years after being diagnosed. Joseph Harrell

Joseph Harrell was born in December of (1973) in Norfolk, Virginia, to parents Helen and Clayton Harrell. Three years later, Helen divorced Clayton, and she moved Joseph along with his older sister Julie to New Mexico. Harrell got his first taste of acting at age seven, when he performed in a church play. However, the divorce and lack of a father figure had a major effect on him. He proceeded to act out, getting into loads of trouble with the law, eventually being put into the local "Scared Straight" program at age ten. The family returned to Virginia Beach in (1984) in order to keep Harrell out of trouble. From the age of 10, he held several part-time jobs ranging from paperboy to pamphleteer, gas station attendant to mechanic, pizza delivery guy to restaurant manager, seafood warehouses to first mate on a fishing boat, and greens keeper to golf caddy. During this time Harrell was involved in various sports such as football, boxing and power lifting. Unfortunately, trouble eventually found him. From the years (1984 - 1991), Harrell was arrested for numerous gang and street related crimes, fighting, vandalism, grand larceny and car theft. In (1992), while attending Bayside high school, Harrell decided to join the Marine Corps in order to find the structure he needed, but a curiosity for exotic dancing caught his eye. Less than three months later he dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a male stripper, a job he would hold for four years In (1996), Harrell headed to New York to pursue his lifelong passion of acting, enrolling at HB Studios. His first audition a year later, for the film "Quiz Show," was a disaster. Scarred from the experience, Harrell gave up acting and decided to focus on a career as a personal trainer for the next three years. Bored and feeling that he was still in desperate need of structure and focus in his life, Harrell kept a promise he made to himself; got his GED, finished a semester of college, and joined the US Marine Corps in (1999). Having found the lifelong search for structure and discipline, Harrell quickly rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in less than five years. Before enlisting for another term, Harrell was in charge of over one hundred Marines and twenty aircraft. During his second enlistment from January (2005-2008), Harrell served as a Drill Instructor for 3rd Battalion Lima Company at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, a position that would have an incredibly positive effect on him. "Being part of something bigger than your self is very exciting," says Harrell, regarding his time in the USMC. "Learning patience, not to quit, and looking forward instills wonderful behavior." Harrell's big acting break came in (2009) with K.J. Sanchez's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway play "ReEntry," which explored the difficulties faced by military veterans making the transition from the battle front to the home front. Originally hired as a military consultant, Harrell's incredible charisma and command of the script during a workshop of the play thoroughly impressed writer/director Sanchez, and she quickly offered him the lead role of the "C.O."

David Healy photo

David Healy

A rotund, jovial New Yorker, David Healy obligingly played every manner of stereotypical American in British films and on television for more than thirty years. The son of an Australian father and an American mother, he spent much of his youth in Texas. Studying at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, he majored in drama and befriended another young acting hopeful, named Larry Hagman. David first arrived in England as a member of the U.S. Air Force and soon wound up, along with Hagman, in the cast of a touring show written by John Briley. This later grew into The Airbase (1965), a 25-minute BBC sitcom (with David as Staff Sergeant Tillman Miller), which took a humorous look at British-American cultural differences at an RAF base. Considering his job prospects to be rather more lucrative in Britain -- in keeping with the 'bigger fish, smaller pond' theory - David soon found himself in almost continuous demand for any part which required an affable or imperious American. His long gallery of characters included diplomats, businessmen, bureaucrats, spooks, military brass, and so on. There were rare occasions, when he acted against type and played 'Britishers' -- a notable point in case being a likeable Dr. Watson, opposite charismatic Ian Richardson as Sherlock Holmes, in The Sign of Four (1983). His comedic side was showcased in guest appearances with Dick Emery and Kenny Everett and a with couple of turns in Jeeves and Wooster (1990). Though married and settled in Surrey, David took job offers on both sides of the Atlantic. He was glimpsed as a cleric in Patton (1970) and in Robert Aldrich's doomsday thriller Twilight's Last Gleaming (1977); well-cast as Teddy Roosevelt in Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years (1977); and he had recurring roles in TV's favourite soapie of the day, Dallas (1978). British TV audiences saw him guesting in just about every major crime series, from The Saint (1962) and Department S (1969), to The Persuaders! (1971). Simultaneously, from 1967, David pursued a successful career as a stage actor in classical plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. In 1975, he re-visited his roots, playing Falstaff at a Shakespeare festival in Dallas. Ever versatile, David found another calling in musicals, appearing in "Kismet", "Call Me Madam" and "The Music Man". He received much praise for his interpretation of Runyonesque gambler Nicely-Nicely Johnson (played definitively on screen by Stubby Kaye) in "Guys and Dolls", performing show-stopping encores of "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat". - IMDb Mini Biography By: I.S.Mowis
