Frank Black

Black Francis (born Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV on April 6, 1965) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as the frontman of the influential alternative rock band Pixies, with whom he performs under the stage name Black Francis. Following the band's breakup in 1993, he embarked on a solo career under the name Frank Black. After releasing two albums with 4AD, he left the label and formed a backing band, Frank Black and the Catholics. He reformed the Pixies in 2004 and continues to release solo records and tour as a solo artist, having re-adopted his current stage name in 2007. His vocal style has varied from a screaming, yowling delivery as lead vocalist of the Pixies to a more measured and melodical style in his solo career. His cryptic lyrics mostly explore unconventional subjects, such as surrealism, incest and Biblical violence, along with science fiction and surf culture. His use of atypical meter signatures, loud-quiet dynamics and distinct preference for live-to-two-track recording in his career as a solo artist give him a distinct style within alternative rock. As frontman of the Pixies, his songs (such as "Where Is My Mind?" and "Debaser") received praise and citations from contemporaries, including Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. Cobain once said that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was his attempt at trying to "rip off the Pixies". However, in his solo work and records with the Catholics, he received fewer popular and critical accolades. Catherine Black is an award winning Canadian actress, artist and filmmaker. She grew up in Owen Sound, a hilly artists haven in Southern Ontario. On her childhood snowmobile, Catherine disappeared into endless fields very fast. She is inspired by the outdoors. Nature and wide, open space, play a prominent role in Catherine’s art. It was the unsupervised moments running around outside that informed so much of her strength, independence and artistic taste. Black is a self-taught painter. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally. Catherine has performed with Christian Bale, Malcolm McDowell, Crispin Glover, Peter Weller, Mark and Michael Polish, Winona Ryder, Hillary Duff, Sean Astin, Shawn Ashmore, Jon Cryer, Chevy Chase, Mark Boone Jr., Jared Leto, Reese Witherspoon, Keegan Michael-Key, Eric Idle, Elyes Gabel, Harland Williams, Katey Sagal and many more. Catherine’s extensive practice as an actor and artist has rooted her artistic vision in filmmaking. After portraying supporting roles in films including Dead Man Walking (1995), The Cable Guy (1996), Mars Attacks! (1996), and Enemy of the State (1998), Black had his breakout role in the musical film High Fidelity (2000). This led to larger roles in films like Shallow Hal (2001) and Orange County (2002) before he solidified his leading-man status with his starring role in School of Rock (2003). He is known for his comedy style, which often includes simulating a mental breakdown, or an increasingly angry rant, ridiculing history, politics, religion, trends and cultural phenomena. He hosted the Comedy Central series Lewis Black's Root of All Evil, and makes regular appearances on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart delivering his “Back in Black” commentary segment. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Pippa Black (born 16 October 1982) is an Australian actress. From 2005 to 2009, Black played Elle Robinson in the soap opera Neighbours. Currently, Black plays Tonya in the NBC series Outsourced. Black made small appearances in Australian television shows, student films and children's theatre before playing Elle Robinson in soap opera Neighbours for four years. Black has not ruled out a return to Neighbours in the future. Recent projects include Gemma Lee's short film The Wake, which premiered in June at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, and independent film Emergence, written and directed by, and starring Anthony Furlong. She is set to appear alongside Eloise Mignon (Neighbours' Bridget Parker) in City Homicide, an Australian television drama, as new mother Emily Rigby. She and Sweeney Young, also of Neighbours fame, portray a young couple in The John Butler Project's music video, "Coma". Black can be seen in an eye makeup advertisement for Australis Cosmetics. In it, she poses as a nurse who is so taken by one patient's eyeshadow that she applies it to her own eyes using her finger. Black attended St Patrick's Primary School in Mentone, Victoria and she later became a Vice Ca Black moved to Los Angeles in 2011 and shared an apartment with fellow Australian actor Tim Campbell. Black is a vegetarian and she starred in an ad campaign for PETA Asia Pacific in 2007. Black donned a gown made entirely of lettuce leaves. She said "[Vegetarianism] is a positive step to help stop animal suffering; it's also great for your health and the environment." Black has supported various charities including the Narre Warren Lighthouse Foundation and the Australian Childhood Foundation.
