Writer · Known for Andromeda, Thor

Ashley Edward Miller (born March 16, 1971) is an American screenwriter and producer best known for his work on the television series Andromeda, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Fringe. He also worked on the films Thor and X-Men: First Class. Born in Windber, Pennsylvania, Miller's family relocated, and he grew up in Gainesville, Virginia. He was a member of the first graduating class at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. His first job out of college was as a middle school English teacher. He then went on to work for the United States Navy as an independent defence contractor. Miller eventually moved to California, starting his career as a writer on the television series Andromeda after meeting one of the series' producers. He is married and has one son. Miller was first hired to work on Andromeda in 2000 as a writer. In 2001, he was given the additional duties of being a consultant on the series, working both positions until the series' cancellation in 2005. It was while working on the show that he first met former journalist and future writing partner Zack Stentz. Together with two other writers, Stentz and Miller co-wrote the screenplay for the 2003 film Agent Cody Banks. The duo continued their writing partnership, working on The Twilight Zone revival. Upon the end of the television series Andromeda, they were put to work on the Fox Television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, co-writing six episodes and co-producing twenty-two episodes together over the series run. When Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was not renewed for a third season, Miller and Stentz moved onto another Fox project, Fringe. Over the two seasons that Miller and Stentz worked on the series, they co-produced twenty-two episodes along with co-writing a total of four episodes. In 2006, Disney purchased an original spec script written by Miller & Stentz entitled The Feynman Chronicles. Miller has stated the film was basically a "bar bet" between himself and Stentz. In December 2009, Miller and Stentz were hired to write the screenplay adaptation for the Dark Horse Comics horror comic book miniseries Damn Nation. During an interview with I09, Miller stated, "We're still in the middle of working on Damn Nation. We turned our first draft into Dark Horse and Paramount Pictures, and everyone seems to love it. We were very pleased with how it came out." After leaving Fringe in 2010, Miller and Stentz were hired to write the screenplay for the summer tentpole live-action version of Thor. Following their work on Thor, Miller and Stentz attended a meeting with Fox executives, who offered them the chance to work with producer Bryan Singer and director Matthew Vaughn by penning a draft of the screenplay for the film X-Men: First Class. After finishing the script and beginning production, both Miller and Stentz expressed their happiness with the tone of the film, complimenting the vision and scenes that Singer had conceived in an interview. On November 8, 2012, Miller and Stentz released their first novel, Colin Fischer, a young adult story about a student with Asperger's Syndrome entering high school. Robert Wise photo

Robert Wise

Director · Known for The Sound of Music

Robert Earl Wise (September 10, 1914 – September 14, 2005) was an American sound effects editor, film editor, film producer and director. He won Academy Awards as Best Director for The Sound of Music (1965) and West Side Story (1961) as well as nominations as Best Film Editing for Citizen Kane (1941) and Best Picture for The Sand Pebbles (1966). Among his other films are Born to Kill; Destination Gobi; The Hindenburg; Star Trek: The Motion Picture; The Day the Earth Stood Still; Run Silent, Run Deep; The Andromeda Strain; The Set-Up; The Haunting; and The Body Snatcher. Wise's working period spanned the 1930s to the 1990s. Often contrasted with contemporary "auteur" directors such as Stanley Kubrick who tended to bring a distinctive directorial "look" to a particular genre, Wise is famously viewed to have allowed his (sometimes studio assigned) story to dictate style. Later critics such as Martin Scorsese would go on to expand that characterization, insisting that despite Wise's notorious workaday concentration on stylistic perfection within the confines of genre and budget, his choice of subject matter and approach still functioned to identify Wise as an artist and not merely an artisan. Through whatever means, Wise's approach would bring him critical success as a director in many different traditional film genres: from horror to noir to Western to war films to science fiction, to musical and drama, with many repeat hits within each genre. Wise's tendency towards professionalism led to a degree of preparedness which, though nominally motivated by studio budget constraints, nevertheless advanced the moviemaking art, with many Academy Award-winning films the result. Robert Wise received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1998.   Description above from the Wikipedia article Robert Wise, licensed under CC-BY-SA, full list of contributors on Wikipedia.

Alex Lifeson photo

Alex Lifeson

Best known as the broadly-skilled guitarist for the rock group Rush, which also features drummer Neil Peart and bassist Geddy Lee. Rush is the most successful Canadian music group in history, and is the third most prolific seller of consecutive (American) Gold and Platinum Records and videos, behind only the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Lifeson's ability to pull double-duty as both a melodic rhythm-guitar player and a searing soloist has earned him a reputation similar to that of his bandmates. All three share the distinction of being among the most highly influential virtuosos in their crafts. Alex has a passion for studio production, and is the only member of Rush to compose and produce a television theme (Andromeda (2000)). But his live performances are where his spontaneous side really shows. During live performances, Alex deftly switches from rhythm guitar to soloing, while simultaneously triggering his own pre-recorded accompaniments. Being the soul of spontaneity in the band, Alex is the member of Rush who most frequently contributes comedy to the show. This side of Alex can be seen during the performances of "La Villa Strangiato" on two of Rush's concert videos, Rush in Rio (2003) and Rush: A Show of Hands (1989), and to an even greater degree on the documentary "The Boys In Brazil" (2003), part of the bonus material included with Rush in Rio (2003). Alex's prowess can be heard on a few non-Rush recordings, primarily his solo album, entitled simply "Victor" (1996), and the soundtrack album for South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999). After their longest break from recording and touring, a highly successful 2002 tour brought Rush back to the United States, Canada, and Mexico, to the great anticipation of fans. Rush ended their 2002 tour with their first-ever shows in Brazil, where they played to 125,000 fans in three nights. The final performance of the 2002 tour was captured on DVD as Rush in Rio (2003), which was certified double-platinum within weeks of its release. Alex has fostered several younger groups, such as The Dexters, who he often guests with during their live performances at The Orbit Room, a Toronto club that Alex owns in part.

Françoise Yip photo

Françoise Yip

Françoise Fong-Wa Yip ( born September 4, 1972) is a Canadian actress. Her best-known roles are the redeemable bad girls in Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx and Jet Li's Black Mask. The critical and financial success of Rumble in the Bronx (and its subsequent number-one box-office bow in the United States) made Yip an instant success and garnered her two Hong Kong Film Award nominations. She continued to do movies and star in TV, but her roles were less known or temporary. The characters she plays often get killed or serve as a background character. Yip appeared in the television series Andromeda as two different characters. Her first character was arrested, and her final character was murdered. She did two movies with Jet Li, the first as a lead romantic interest in Black Mask and the second in Romeo Must Die, but this time she played a Chinese gangster motorcycle assassin killed by Jet Li and Aaliyah. An unfortunate aspect of her career is that none of the TV shows she starred in lasted beyond a full season, and if she did have a starring role in a movie it was a straight-to-video/DVD film. Her most recent appearance was in the new Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem movie, and she guest-starred in the Canadian TV show Blood Ties.
