Disney and Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame Encore has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, leading a crowded weekend that offered a wide variety of choices for moviegoers.
The re-release of the 2019 superhero juggernaut, which features a modified cut and new post-credits scenes designed to set up the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, pulled in a strong $3.8 million in Thursday previews before driving toward a projected $26 million opening weekend. The healthy return pushes the film’s lifetime domestic gross even higher, edging it closer to major all-time global milestones.
While the Marvel blockbuster captured the crown, several new and returning titles fought fiercely for the remaining spots on the charts.
Sony’s Resident Evil slipped to second place in its sophomore frame, bringing in an estimated $23.8 million—marking a 60 percent drop from its massive $60 million debut last weekend. Despite the slide, the horror-thriller continues to perform well as it clears major box office thresholds.

Meanwhile, A24’s Primetime and Paramount’s Heart of the Beast locked into a tight race for the No. 3 position. Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson, managed to secure the edge with a projected $20.5 million weekend. Operating on a modest reported $15 million production budget, the film shapes up as a solid theatrical win for A24.
On its heels, the survival thriller Heart of the Beast—starring Brad Pitt as a Special Forces veteran stranded in the Alaskan wilderness alongside his combat dog—earned a projected $20 million opening. While the film has resonated well with audiences, pulling in strong exit scores, its heftier $80 million production budget means it will face a tougher path toward ultimate profitability.
On the animated front, Universal and DreamWorks Animation's Forgotten Island struggled to find its footing, pulling in a soft opening weekend that ranks among the lower tiers for the studio.
Overall, the weekend delivered a diverse mix of nostalgia, scares, and dramas, proving that theaters can still draw robust crowds across multiple demographics.
